After years of growth, RSM McGladrey's IT infrastructure required a much-needed revamp. Their infrastructure had become awkward and unmanageable and was not a good fit for their employees, especially those out in the field, relying on mobile solutions. In late 2005, RSM McGladrey switched to a collaboration solution based on integrated Microsoft® products. The company also began migrating its Notes applications to Microsoft technologies, including the Microsoft .NET Framework.
For RSM McGladrey, an essential element of upgrading their existing solutions was ensuring that all data living within the old infrastructure would be bought over to live on the new system. For this task, Microsoft enlisted the help of Binary Tree. Greg Kostick, a Microsoft Project Manager working with RSM McGladrey on the company's new infrastructure, enlisted the help of Binary Tree's CMT Universal™ tool for the migration element of the project. More than just an email migration tool and built on Microsoft’s approved platform, CMT Universal™ offers superb data-fidelity and is deservedly favored by Microsoft for migrations to the Exchange messaging platform.
Over the course of a weekend in the 4th quarter of 2005, the first stage of the migration took place, with more than 2,000 Notes mailboxes being transferred over to Exchange. The remaining 5,000 users were migrated several weeks later to an Exchange server using the CMT Universal™ solution. Throughout the migration process, RSM McGladrey did not experience any serious disruption in service. The biggest challenge was in moving a large amount of data in a short time period (a single weekend). CMT Universal™ managed to process 2 terabytes of data in 48 hours, with a total of 3 1/2 terabytes being migrated in 3 days, to the delight of both Microsoft and the customer.
RSM McGladrey had been using Lotus Notes applications for a wide variety of business needs and Binary Tree ensured that not only were the basic data components migrated over to Microsoft Exchange, any additional more complex data would be bought over too.
As the new infrastructure relies on tightly-knit Microsoft technologies, RSM McGladrey's employees are experiencing a new way of communicating and collaborating which has increased employee productivity. These changes have improved employee moral and reduce operational costs.
